BANG

Just over a weekend, intense protests, fueled by the killing of an African-American male by a white police officer in Minneapolis, took place around the world. In a time of mourning and anger over the ongoing violence inflicted on the Black Communities and the lack of accountability from the national leadership, no matter how much we shield our children from these upsetting images, kids will eventually be overheating these incidents about race, racial differences, and racism. Talking to children about this unnerving topic can be sensitive and messy, especially when there are no things such as “quick tips'' when it comes to the complexities of race. What is your plan of action? Kids are never too young to learn about diversity, so this is an opportunity to fulfill their curiosity and enrich them with knowledge about races/ ethnic diversity.

ABOUT

Talking about race is a tricky topic, as what is discussed can change depending on a variety of factors. Therefore, the context will vary, depending on who is talking and what their personal experiences are with race and racism. Accordingly, our general objectives are to achieve these points:

  • Actually talk about the topic and make it relatable

  • Openly address the mistakes about the racism to set an example

  • Inspire kids to reflect on their personalities and embrace other races

  • Construct a learning community leading toward the advocate for racial/ ethnic equality

  • Help kids to read and to educate themselves on these topics with passion and joy
